A federation rooted in the hills.
FOSEP — the Federation of Societies for Environmental Protection — is a registered non-governmental organisation working across the Darjeeling Hills and the Siliguri region of the Eastern Himalaya. We are registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act, 1961.
Our work spans one of the most biodiverse and ecologically fragile landscapes on Earth: the Kanchenjunga landscape, home to globally threatened endemic plants, animals, insects, and birds, and to communities whose well-being is inseparable from the health of the mountain.
FOSEP envisions a landscape where human aspirations and nature thrive together — creating resilient ecosystems that support biodiversity, ecological balance, and a meaningful quality of life for all beings.
That vision guides everything we do — from biodiversity conservation to health camps, from afforestation to disaster preparedness.
Our mandate
The Ministry of Environment & Forests has designated FOSEP as a Regional Resource Agency (RRA) for National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) activities across the Darjeeling Hills and Siliguri — a role we carry with care and accountability.

Stewardship
The Himalaya is not a resource to spend but a living system to keep. We measure success in habitats protected and species that endure.

Conservation only lasts when it is just. We work for gender equity, social and economic justice, and the fair sharing of natural resources.

Lasting change is local. Our models are designed with the communities who live closest to the land and depend on it most.
