Himalayan Salamander Festival & stakeholders' meeting

FOSEP successfully organised a Himalayan Salamander Festival and stakeholders' meeting on 30 May 2026 at Jorepokhri, focused on strengthening regional ecology, Himalayan salamander conservation, and multi-stakeholder action planning.

Speakers included Dr. Karthikeyan Vasudevan (Senior Scientist, CCMB Hyderabad), Prof. Amaël Borzée (IUCN Amphibian Specialist Group Co-Chair), Shri Devesh Pandey (IFS, DFO Kurseong Division), Shri Bivek (Biodiversity Research and Conservation Society, Nepal), Dr. Barkha Subba and Shri Bharat Prakash Rai (FOSEP), and Shri Furba Sherpa (Salamander Initiative, Sukhia). Keynote by Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, MP (Rajya Sabha).

Plantation & cleanup at Namthing (Selpu) Pokhri

Plantation of native tree saplings (80) and Acorus calamus (60) around Namthing (Selpu) Pokhri was done on 13th July 2026. The saplings and Acorus plants were generously provided by the Kurseong Forest Department. The programme was led by FOSEP with the participation of the local community youths from Namthing Sanrakshan Committee, Forest Department staff, and children of Mount Zion School (Namthing).
